Discover Friendship, Fun and Fresh Interests in Retirement
Wahroonga East Probus Club, on Sydney's Upper North Shore, is a vibrant social group for retired or semi-retired men who are looking to stay active, engaged and connected. We enjoy regular meetings, outings, guest speakers, and a wide range of interest groups—all in the company of like-minded friends.

What Is Probus?
Probus Clubs were originally created for retirees from professional and business backgrounds—hence the name "Probus" from Professional and Business. The Latin word probus also means "good", and reflects our core values of integrity, friendship and fun.
The movement began in England in 1966 and quickly grew across the world. The first Australian club formed in 1976, with our own Wahroonga East Probus Club established in 1992 under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Wahroonga.

Probus is non-political, non-sectarian, and non-fundraising—our sole aim is to foster social connection, shared learning and enjoyable activities in retirement.

What We Do
Our Club meets monthly to:
  • Hear from high-quality guest speakers on topics of broad interest
  • Socialise over morning tea and Club updates
  • Coordinate a full calendar of activities and outings, from day trips to dinners, walking groups, interest clubs and more.

Probus is what you make it—members choose how they want to participate, and many find new friendships and interests that become central to their retirement lifestyle.

Membership Guidelines
We currently welcome a limited number of new members each year—typically around 10—to ensure we maintain our welcoming and balanced Club environment.

Our Membership Committee has outlined the following expectations and process:
  • We seek active, community-minded retirees, ideally in the early stages of retirement, who are interested in ongoing involvement.
  • We aim for a diverse membership and may stagger applications to maintain a broad mix of backgrounds and interests.
  • Candidates will be asked to indicate the Club activities they are interested in and understand they may be invited to take an active role in the future—such as convening an activity or joining the committee.
  • New members will be supported by their Proposer to get involved and feel part of the Club community from the outset.

We value friendship, compatibility, enthusiasm, and participation. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
