Big Stories  Little Films began in 2012, when award-winning television producer and  director Danika Armytage was working in unscripted television. One day, when  her Granny was in town and her work camera was sitting idle, Danika took the  opportunity to film an interview with her about her life. What followed was  an incredible conversation about war, falling in love and emigrating to  Australia.

The footage was  then left unwatched in a drawer until 6 years later when her Granny passed  away. It was then that the interview was shared with the rest of her family  and Danika realised how invaluable the footage was.

Fast forward to  2024, after becoming a mum and reflecting on the importance of  intergenerational storytelling and legacy, Danika developed and launched Big  Stories Little Films. At its core, this company is dedicated to  preserving the stories that matter most, promoting family connections and  creating a space for wisdom to be shared between generations.

Now, Big  Stories Little Films is Australia’s premium legacy film service which  creates beautiful, professional-quality short documentary films all over  Australia with a team of leading documentary makers

Summary of presentation:

When people think about preserving their life story, they  often think of writing a memoir. But what if there was a way to capture not  just the words, but the voice, expressions and personality of a life lived  through film?

Join us for an engaging presentation with Danika Armytage,  founder and director of Big Stories Little Films – Australia’s leading life  legacy film company.

Drawing on more than 20 years' experience as a television  producer, Danika will share highlights from her television career and how an  interview with her grandmother on film changed the trajectory of her life.

Today, Danika helps individuals, couples and families preserve  their personal histories, values, memories and life lessons on film for  future generations. She will share short examples of these powerful films,  discuss the impact they can have on families, and provide practical tips on  how anyone can begin recording their own story for free, at home using  nothing more than a smartphone.

Whether you  have ever considered documenting your life story or simply enjoy hearing  about how technology is changing the way we can record life stories, this  presentation offers inspiration, practical guidance and a fresh perspective  on preserving the memories that matter most.
